This comforting meatball casserole combines tender, flavorful meatballs with a rich tomato sauce and gooey, melted cheese, all baked together to perfection. Perfect for family dinners or cozy weeknight meals.

Ingredients

  • Ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork for extra flavor)
  • Breadcrumbs (use panko or regular; gluten-free options work too)
  • Eggs (to bind the meatballs)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (adds richness)
  • Minced garlic (fresh is best)
  • Chopped parsley (for brightness)
  • Salt and pepper (to season)
  • Marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese (for that gooey topping)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (for extra cheesy goodness)
  • Cooked pasta (penne, rigatoni, or your favorite shape)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix gently but thoroughly. Roll the mixture into meatballs (about 1-inch in diameter).
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Brown the meatballs on all sides for about 5-7 minutes. (This step is optional, but it adds extra flavor.)
  4. While the meatballs are browning, boil your pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  5. In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce. Add the cooked pasta, then top with meatballs. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the meatballs and sprinkle shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with fresh parsley for garnish.

Notes

[‘Don’t overmix the meatball ingredients to avoid tough meatballs.’, ‘Fresh garlic, parsley, and good-quality Parmesan make a big difference in flavor.’, ‘Browning the meatballs adds depth and a slightly crisp texture.’, ‘Ensure the pasta is evenly coated with sauce to prevent dryness.’, ‘Sprinkle cheese generously across the top for the ultimate melty, golden crust.’]
