A hearty and comforting one-pan meal combining tangy Sloppy Joe filling with golden, flaky biscuits—perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can biscuits (flaky or buttery)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of oil. Once hot, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon (about 5 minutes).
  3. Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.
  4. Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine and let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes. The mixture should thicken slightly.
  5. Transfer the Sloppy Joe filling to your baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Open the canned biscuits and arrange them on top of the filling. Leave a little space between each biscuit for them to expand.
  7. Optional: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the biscuits for a cheesy finish.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

[‘Use lean meat and drain excess grease before adding sauce ingredients.’, ‘Leave space between biscuits to ensure even baking.’, ‘Prepare the filling ahead and refrigerate for up to 2 days.’, ‘Customize the sauce with hot sauce or smoked paprika for extra flavor.’, ‘Check biscuit doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center.’]
