Instructions

  1. Pour 1 cup (240 ml) of beer into a large mixing bowl. Add the thinly sliced yellow onion, garlic powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and black pepper. Stir gently to combine.
  2. Place 4-6 bratwursts into the bowl, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover with plastic wrap and soak for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours in the fridge.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Lightly coat the air fryer basket with olive oil or cooking spray.
  5. Remove the brats from the beer soak, letting excess drip off. Arrange them in a single layer in the basket without overcrowding.
  6. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 12 minutes, flipping the brats halfway through (after 6 minutes) using tongs.
  7. Check that the brats are golden brown, crispy on the outside, and have reached an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). If needed, cook in 2-minute increments until done.
  8. Let the brats rest for 3-5 minutes before serving to allow juices to redistribute.
