A quick and easy chocolate fondue recipe featuring rich, silky melted dark chocolate paired with fresh fruit for a simple, indulgent dessert perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (225 g) dark chocolate (60-70% cocoa), chopped
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream (or full-fat coconut milk for dairy-free)
  • 2 tbsp (28 g) unsalted butter, softened (or coconut butter for vegan)
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (approx. 150 g) fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 1 large banana, peeled and sliced into thick rounds
  • 1 medium green apple, cored and sliced into wedges
  • 1 cup (approx. 150 g) pineapple chunks, fresh or canned (drained)
  • Optional extras: marshmallows, pretzel sticks, pound cake cubes, biscotti, gluten-free cookies, rice crackers

Instructions

  1. Rinse all fresh fruit under cold water and pat dry. Hull and halve the strawberries, slice the banana into thick rounds, core and wedge the apple, and chop pineapple into bite-sized chunks. Arrange the fruit attractively on a serving platter. (About 10 minutes)
  2. Fill a saucepan with about 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) of water and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Place a heatproof bowl on top, making sure it doesn’t touch the water. (5 minutes)
  3. Chop the dark chocolate into small, even pieces for smooth melting. Add chocolate, heavy cream, and softened butter into the bowl. Stir gently and continuously with a spatula as the chocolate melts. (5-7 minutes)
  4. Once the chocolate is mostly melted and smooth, stir in vanilla extract. If the fondue feels too thick, add a splash more cream (a teaspoon at a time) until it reaches a velvety, dippable texture. (2 minutes)
  5. Pour the warm chocolate fondue into your fondue pot or serving bowl. If using a fondue pot with a heat source, light the tealight or low flame to keep chocolate warm. (2 minutes)
  6. Invite everyone to dip their choice of fresh fruit or treats into the luscious chocolate. Encourage slow, savoring bites to fully enjoy the rich flavor and contrasting textures.

Notes

If chocolate thickens or seizes, add a tablespoon of warm cream and stir vigorously. Avoid water contact with chocolate while melting. Keep dippables dry to prevent seizing. Use a fondue pot with low heat or tealight candle to keep chocolate warm during serving. For vegan version, substitute dairy ingredients with plant-based alternatives.
