  • 4 oz (115 g) milk chocolate
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp (28 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Fresh fruit: sliced strawberries, banana chunks, apple slices, seedless grapes (seasonal berries like raspberries or blackberries optional)
  • 8 oz (225 g) pound cake, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • Optional: pinch of sea salt
  • Optional: 1 tbsp coffee or liqueur (Kahlua or Grand Marnier)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and slice fresh fruit into bite-sized pieces. Cut pound cake into 1 to 1.5 inch cubes. Arrange on serving platter. (Prep time: 10 minutes)
  2. Pour 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream into fondue pot or heatproof bowl. Warm gently over low heat or microwave until steaming but not boiling (2-3 minutes).
  3. Break dark and milk chocolate into small pieces and add to hot cream. Let sit 1-2 minutes to soften.
  4. Gently stir chocolate and cream with whisk or spatula until smooth and glossy. If lumps remain, keep stirring over low heat or warm briefly in microwave in 15-second bursts.
  5. Add 2 tbsp softened unsalted butter and 1 tsp vanilla extract. Stir until butter melts and fondue is smooth and shiny.
  6. Optional: Stir in 1 tbsp coffee or orange liqueur and a pinch of sea salt for flavor contrast.
  7. Transfer fondue pot to heat source (low flame candle or fondue burner) to keep warm. Place platter of fruit and pound cake nearby.
  8. Use fondue forks or skewers to dip fruit and pound cake into chocolate. Enjoy while warm and gooey (fondue stays warm for 30-40 minutes).

Notes

Use gentle heat to avoid chocolate seizing. If chocolate thickens, stir in a splash of warm cream. For dairy-free version, substitute heavy cream with full-fat coconut milk and use dairy-free chocolate and vegan cake. Keep dippers fresh to avoid sogginess. Fondue can be kept warm on low flame candle or fondue burner.
