A quick, light, and fresh appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil leaves drizzled with balsamic glaze. Perfect for easy entertaining and crowd-pleasing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 ripe cherry tomatoes, halved if large
  • 20 small fresh mozzarella balls (Bocconcini or Ciliegine), drained
  • 20 medium-sized fresh basil leaves, washed and dried
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze or reduction
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 20 wooden skewers or toothpicks, about 4 inches long

Instructions

  1. Rinse 20 cherry tomatoes under cold water and pat dry. If large, cut in half.
  2. Toss tomatoes gently in a mixing bowl with 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Let marinate for 5 minutes.
  3. Drain fresh mozzarella balls and pat dry with a paper towel.
  4. Rinse and dry basil leaves thoroughly.
  5. Assemble skewers by threading one cherry tomato, one mozzarella ball, and one basil leaf (folded if large) onto each wooden skewer or toothpick.
  6. Arrange skewers on a serving platter.
  7. Drizzle remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil evenly over skewers, followed by about 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze.
  8. Sprinkle lightly with flaky sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper.
  9. Let skewers rest at room temperature for 5 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

Use fresh, high-quality mozzarella and basil for best flavor. Fold large basil leaves to balance bites. If making balsamic glaze at home, simmer ½ cup balsamic vinegar over medium heat for 10-12 minutes until syrupy. Keep skewers chilled until serving but allow to rest at room temperature for best flavor. Avoid overcrowding skewers for balanced bites.
