A festive and visually striking layered cocktail featuring red, white, and blue layers perfect for 4th of July and other celebrations. This quick and easy recipe balances sweet, creamy, and citrusy flavors for a crowd-pleasing drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 oz (90 ml) cranberry juice (unsweetened or lightly sweetened)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) grenadine syrup
  • 1.5 oz (45 ml) vodka (preferably Tito’s)
  • 2 oz (60 ml) Irish cream liqueur (such as Baileys)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) half-and-half or heavy cream
  • 1.5 oz (45 ml) blue curaçao
  • 1 oz (30 ml) light rum or vodka
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: fresh berries or edible stars for garnish

Instructions

  1. Chill your highball glass in the freezer for about 5 minutes to keep the layers defined longer.
  2. Prepare the red layer by combining cranberry juice, grenadine syrup, and vodka in a small mixing glass. Stir gently to blend without bubbles.
  3. Pour the red mixture into the bottom of the chilled glass and add a couple of ice cubes, leaving room for the layers above.
  4. Slowly pour the white layer (Irish cream liqueur mixed with half-and-half) over the back of a bar spoon held just above the red layer to float it gently on top.
  5. Mix the blue layer by combining blue curaçao with light rum or vodka, then layer it on top of the white using the spoon technique.
  6. Garnish with fresh blueberries or edible stars if desired.
  7. Serve immediately with a straw or sip slowly to enjoy each distinct layer.

Notes

Use the back of a spoon to pour layers slowly to prevent mixing. Chill all liquids and glass before layering. Use large ice cubes to slow melting and preserve layers. For dairy-free, substitute Irish cream and cream with coconut cream or non-dairy liqueur. For lower sugar, use natural cranberry juice and sugar-free grenadine.
