A quick and easy summer cocktail combining fresh blackberries, bourbon, and lemonade for a perfectly balanced sweet-tart drink that’s perfect for gatherings or relaxing solo.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries (about 300 g)
  • 1 cup bourbon whiskey (240 ml)
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (240 ml, roughly 45 lemons)
  • 1/2 cup honey or simple syrup (120 ml)
  • 2 cups cold water or sparkling water (480 ml)
  • Ice cubes, plenty for serving
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse 2 cups of fresh blackberries under cold water. Drain and place them in a blender. Blend for about 30 seconds until smooth puree or pulse a few times for some texture.
  2. Strain the blackberry puree through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or directly into the pitcher to remove seeds and pulp. Press with a spoon to extract as much juice as possible.
  3. Optional: Reserve a handful of blackberries and muddle them gently in the pitcher with 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of honey or simple syrup. Let sit for 10 minutes to macerate.
  4. Add 1 cup (240 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1 cup (240 ml) bourbon whiskey into the pitcher. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Add 1/2 cup (120 ml) honey or simple syrup and 2 cups (480 ml) cold water or sparkling water. Stir until honey is fully dissolved and mixture is uniform.
  6. Add plenty of ice cubes to the pitcher. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and a few whole blackberries. Pour into glasses over ice and serve immediately.

Notes

For a smoother texture, blend blackberries briefly and strain to remove seeds. Macerate a few berries with honey or syrup for deeper flavor. Use fresh lemon juice for best brightness. Prepare ahead by mixing all except ice and sparkling water, then add before serving. Variations include using rye whiskey, adding herbal infusions, or making a mocktail by omitting bourbon.
