patriotic sangria recipe - featured image

A vibrant and festive sangria featuring red wine, blueberries, cranberries, and citrus, perfect for summer celebrations and easy to prepare in under 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry red wine (Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup chilled sparkling water (plain or lemon-flavored)
  • 1/4 cup brandy (optional)
  • Ice cubes as needed (or extra frozen berries)

Instructions

  1. Rinse blueberries and cranberries well. If using fresh, pat dry. Slice orange and lemon into thin rounds, removing seeds if possible.
  2. In a large pitcher, pour the entire bottle (750 ml) of red wine. Add brandy if using, then stir in simple syrup to taste.
  3. Add prepared blueberries, cranberries, orange slices, and lemon slices. Gently stir to combine.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 3-4 hours, to allow flavors to meld.
  5. Just before serving, add sparkling water and extra frozen blueberries or ice cubes. Stir gently to combine without crushing the fruit.

Notes

Use frozen berries to chill the sangria without watering it down. Let the sangria chill for several hours or overnight for best flavor. Adjust simple syrup to taste depending on sweetness preference. For alcohol-free version, substitute wine and brandy with grape juice and sparkling water.
