Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) unsalted butter, melted
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup (50g) light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup (62g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (50g) light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) store-bought salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, melted butter, and salt for the base. Stir until crumbly and press evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 10 minutes, then let cool.
  3. In another bowl, mix the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice for the apple filling. Set aside.
  4. Combine the flour, brown sugar, butter cubes, and salt in a bowl for the streusel topping. Use a pastry cutter or fork to mix until crumbly.
  5. Spread the apple filling evenly over the cooled base. Sprinkle the streusel topping over the apples, covering them completely.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the apples are tender.
  7. Once the bars have cooled slightly, drizzle salted caramel sauce generously over the top.
  8. Let the bars cool completely before slicing. Serve and enjoy!
